Description
In 1998 Doug Flutie was 36, playing out a season nobody expected anything from, and on his way to being named pro football’s Comeback Player of the Year. PLB Sports printed fifty thousand boxes of a cereal with his name on it, with the proceeds going to the foundation he and his wife Laurie had started for their son, Doug Jr.
They sold more than three million. Grocery stores put limits on how many you could take. People bought two anyway — one to eat, one to keep sealed on a shelf. That December the millionth box went to auction and sold for more than fourteen hundred dollars.
This is not that box.
It is the 2026 collector’s edition, drawn new for the relaunch: Doug mid-throw, the wordmark in red across a clean field, and the same line the 1998 carton carried along the top — Limited Edition Collector’s Box. Same cause, same frosted corn flakes, new artwork. The 1998 box is a collector’s item and it is staying one.
Two of them, because one is going on a shelf and you know it. Exactly how people bought them the first time.
- Two boxes of the 2026 collector’s edition
- A new design drawn for this run — not a reprint of the 1998 box
- Frosted corn flakes, net wt. 14 oz (397 g) per box
