The last box of Flutie Flakes™ you will ever buy.

In 1998 a quarterback the NFL had passed over until the eleventh round put his name on a cereal box so his son’s cause could get a shelf in every grocery store in America. Three million boxes later, it is coming back one final time — in a collector’s box drawn new for 2026.

3,000,000+ boxes sold in 1998, on a plan of fifty thousand

About Doug

The quarterback who was always too small — for twenty-one seasons.

On November 23, 1984, a college team trailed the defending national champions 45–41 with 28 seconds left. Doug Flutie, all 5-foot-10 of him, scrambled right and threw the ball as far as he could. Gerard Phelan caught it in the end zone. They won 47–45, the phrase “Hail Mary” entered the American vocabulary for good, and weeks later Flutie won college football’s biggest individual award.

The professional verdict was unanimous: too short. So he built one of the strangest and best careers in the sport — twenty-one seasons across three different leagues and eight different teams. Six times he was named his league’s most outstanding player. Three times he won a championship, and all three times he was MVP of the title game.

That’s the way I like it because there’s no time to have nerves about it. You just run out and do it.

Doug Flutie

That was the year Flutie Flakes arrived. PLB Sports printed fifty thousand boxes. Three million later, grocery stores were rationing them and fans were buying two — one to eat, one to keep. The millionth box sold at auction that December for more than fourteen hundred dollars.

He ended his career in January 2006 with a drop kick — the first successful one in a professional game since 1941 — and he is a member of the College Football and Canadian Football halls of fame. None of which is the reason this box exists.

Order fulfillment

Your order is packed by the Boone Center

Every Flutie Flakes order is fulfilled at the Boone Center. Its contract packaging operation, BCI Packaging, is a non-profit that exists to create paid work for adults with disabilities, and it handles co-packaging and co-manufacturing for local businesses and global brands alike.

Boone Center was started by two women at a time when that kind of work was not open to the people it was built for. Sending our fulfillment there means the box that arrives at your door was packed by someone the job was created for.
